DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT CASTING A LINE WITHOUT REGISTERING FOR THE STATE OF TEXAS ANGLER’S RODEO (STAR) FISHING TOURNAMENT…….
May 23rd, 2009 marked the 20th Anniversary of the STAR fishing tournament on the Texas Gulf Coast. The tournament officially started at sunrise on May 23rd and runs through Monday, September 7th (Labor Day). The very popular Texas Ford Dealers Redfish Division will return this year with 50% more tagged Redfish released this year as compared to last year. A total of 60 tagged redfish were released last year and that number increased to 90 this year. The 19 year history of the tournament shows that on average, about one-third of the tagged fish are caught, but unfortunately, very few anglers are registered for the tournament at the time of the catch. Last year, a total of seventeen tagged fish were caught, but only three fishermen were lucky enough to take home the big prize.
This year, the first five anglers who are properly registered for the tournament, who catch a tagged redfish, will drive off in a new 2009 Ford F-150 Texas Edition truck, towing a Haynie 23 Bigfoot boat equipped with a Mercury 150 EFI motor and a Coastline trailer. The next five anglers to weigh in a tagged redfish will receive the same boat, motor and trailer package. Don’t be one of those unlucky 14 anglers who caught a tagged redfish last year but had not registered for the tournament.
YOU’VE GOT TO BE IN TO WIN……. In order to win one of a Million dollars in prizes this year, an angler must be a CURRENT member of CCA, in addition to being registered as a 2009 TEXAS STAR entrant. Non CCA members must first join CCA by paying a $25.00 membership fee and then pay the additional $20.00 tournament entry fee. Kids under the age of 18 can join CCA as a “New Tide” member for $10.00 and they are automatically entered in the tournament for no additional cost.
